Scott Steger of the Vintage Factory shows you how sano out your mini...
If you didn’t have one in your youth, you wanted one. The Honda XR 75 was the ultimate 4-stroke mini. Ever since its introduction, in 1973, this eclectic mini has symbolized all things to early moto aficionados. The early models, from 1973-1976, featured a 4-speed tranny, while the 1977-78 models, came with a 5 speed transmission. The later models also had laid-down shocks, and came in a red hot Tahitian color scheme, that fit in nicely with its big brother, the Honda CR125 Elsinore.
This Tahitian Red Honda is immaculately restored and sports an FMF flame decal set and pipe to bring it back up to snuff...
WHEN XR 75's RULED THE EARTH...
In the mid 70’s, the Honda XR75’s ruled the mini class, with most having highly modified engines. At the starting gate, it sounded like a thunderstorm brewing in the near distance. But in 1976, a lightning bolt struck – the Yamaha YZ80C, bringing the XR75’s reign of terror to an end.
Today, our generation of Honda XR75 fans are still strong, and growing. The once young, are now grown, collecting, racing, and rebuilding the once famed XR75. Why?
It’s as fun (and affordable) to build them up now as it was then. Even better, now we can actually "AFFORD" to do it! There are also all kinds of XR 75 Vintage or mini races, with countless others out there now collecting and putting them on display in their office, wreck room, or the garage...

VINTAGE FACTORY TO THE RESCUE...
Over at Vintage Factory the Honda XR 75 is one of the most popular builds/restorations going. You should always start with a good core bike, with most of the parts intact. These off road bikes can be found on Craigslist, EBay, and other classified publications.
If you are having us (Vintage Factory) do the rebuild, we will first completely disassemble the bike, putting it through our complete restoration process.
We start with a freshly powder coated frame, and install an aftermarket swingarm (if needed).
From there, we disassemble the bikes engine.
In our DG Replica rebuild kit, we opted to modify the engine, but not go "TOO" overboard, which can take away from its fabled reliability.
We chose a Hi-compression big bore piston kit, Hi-Rev cam, an H/D set of valve springs, a flow ported head, a Keihin 22 mm carb, with Hi-volume intake manifold, and a DG replica header.

SLIP & GO...
Once we slip the engine into the chassis, we secure it to the aluminum motor mounts. Then, we mount an extended aluminum brake-stay arm, as well as a longer shock, to accommodate our new extended aluminum swingarm.
Then up front, we can tailor a variety of "Vintage" front ends for your own particular rebuild. We used the stock front forks on this build, with a set of aluminum air caps, to help cushion the front end. We also use a 17” front wheel to help improve the bike's cornering skills.
