THE 2012 AMA HARLEY-DAVIDSON INSURANCE GRAND The Machines What makes flat tracking so unique to American shores is its reliance on mostly large displacement twin cylinder four-strokes, notably among them the American legendary marque, Harley-Davidson. Big, bad V-twins that can only be associated with the good old USA. Not to say, there are also a smattering of exotic Ducati twins, Aprilia’s, Kawasaki twins, and a stable of other one off specialty built machines. Monster Energy and Kawasaki are everywhere. Here Bill Werner gives the rear wheels some hot iron grooves at the Pomona National finale. Rules for Twins The largest displacement machines are run in the Ex- pert class on Mile and Half-mile tracks, with top speeds of over 130 mph! Engine displacement- can run from 550cc - 1250cc, with the following restrictions: Racing only engines may not exceed 750cc, engines greater than 1000cc are restricted to air/oil cooled.
