Georgia Dome A packed crowd of 70,000+ southerners jammed the At- lanta Georgia Dome to see the AMA’s Supercross Champion- ship return to one of the oldest and most storied venues on the circuit. It was a battle royale between KTM’s Ryan Dungey (who had terrible starts the week before in Dallas) and Ka- wasaki’s Ryan Villopoto. RV2, won easily last week when arch rival Chad Reed went down in a battle for the lead. Reed now has to sit out the rest of the series with a knee injury. But RV2 other nemesis, Ryan Dungey, was there to show he will continue to be a factor in the chase for this years Supercross title. Surprisingly, it was Cole Seely, who grabbed the main event holeshot in Atlanta, after being rushed in to fill the va- cant ride of Honda’s Trey Ca- nard. Seely, Dungey, and JGR’s Davi Millsaps were running up front, with RV2 getting a bad start, along with James Stew- art, who was again mired in the pack. Dungey soon passed Seely for the lead and stayed there, with RV2 on the gas and charging hard to the front. As the laps wound down, it was Dungey and RV2 battling for the lead, up until mistakes on both their parts, closed the gap, only to have Villopoto slid out, and that was enough to give Dungey the win. James Stewart also made up for his bad start and worked his way up to the final podium position with a strong third place finish. Round #8: Atlanta, GA. Feb. 25, 2012 AMA Supercross Results: 1.
